I was out in one of my Civil War campsites today and dug this neat looking pin. I was really happy when I saw the Eagle, but then surprised to see 1776 on the bottom left, and 1876, on the bottom right. So, it is not Civil War. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea of what it may be. With the two dates it certainly commemmorates the period 1776 to 1876, but again, can't figure out what it is.

Neat find! It's a Centennial suspender clip. There were lots of commemorative items of this sort in 1876, and in fact at the Centennial Exposition held in Philadelphia that year, the National Suspender Co. of New York had an exhibit in Machinery Hall, where visitors could order a pair of custom-made Centennial suspenders with their name woven into the straps.

That's a cool item. The centennial celebration was even incorporated into suspender clips...now that's what I call PATRIOTISM. I like it!!!! Course anything with an eagle on it is a collectible keeper item in my opinion.

I was wondering if it was a suspender clip. But the picture of the suspenders was way more than I expected. Thanks for the research and help.

The clip may or may not be the one used on that particular brand of suspenders. There are a number of 1876 Centennial suspender clip varieties.
