All,

Before I donate these relics to a local museum I need your help identifying them. The first relic could be a clock gear. It measures 2 3/4" H x 3 3/4" W X 1/32" thick. However, all clock gears I've seen on-line are a full circle. Only the rack is an arc - but I'm not sure that is what this is. The second relic could be a bottle cap with a diameter of 1 3/8". Note the words FULL, HALF, EMPTY on it. It appears someone opened the cap by puncturing it with a knife. The third relic could be a saw blade with a diameter of 7 1/2". With the exception of the FULL, HALF, EMPTY on the cap, there are no maker's marks or other identifying info on any of the relics. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

The saw blade looks like one for cutting stone, ceramic tile, or concrete.

not a saw blade IMO, it would need a full circular pattern of teeth. balanced for high speed
1/32 thick ?
Clock part?

Thanks and I agree. Before posting I was leaning towards a stone cutting blade like this one. The shape is similar but I don't see a diamond edge. Either this blade pre-dates that type of edge, its to rusty to see it, or its for a different purpose.

Thanks for the input. Given the 1/32" thickness, a clock part was the first thing that came to my mind also. However, 99.99% of the clock gear-like parts I've seen on-line are a complete circle. Only a part called a rack, labelled "M" in the picture, is commonly an arc. I'm just not sure what I found is an rack. I've tried to think of other machines that could've used thin gears such as adding or tabulating machine - but up till now haven't found a close match...

That "clock gear" does look like A rack for a repeater or a "striking clock". I'm not sure that I've seen( memory stinks) one exactly like yours but that sure looks like the same kind of design.

....Thinking the cap WAS a level indicator since the "half" is BESIDE the opening. I bet a pointer of some type was visible in the slash.

Like from a gas cap.

There would probably have been a sight-glass behind your FULL/HALF/EMPTY cap. But the interesting thing about yours is that the EMPTY is at the top and the FULL is at the bottom??? So whatever it was maybe had a float on the end of an arm and the indicator would have been on the other side of the pivot. So it may have been a pointer instead of the fluid level. Like maybe a seeder hopper?

The half-gear (called a "quadrant gear") looks like a steering quadrant for something with a worm gear to aim or direct something like a chute or possibly for a depth adjustment. Some motorcycles used a similar but larger & beefier one than yours for the kickstarter.

I had coincidentally been looking at plates from a seeder earlier to see if I could find one like the item that resembles a saw blade. I didn't see one quite right in my quick search, but still maybe more than coincidence?

All, thanks again for the input. Although I donated the items to the museum yesterday, I'll keep trying to ID. Began researching "quadrant gear" and found a few patent drawings/descriptions with them but the drawings were so grainy can't see much. Regarding the cap, I looked at the bottles at the museum, but unfortunately none had those kind of caps. Also I don't think there was a sight glass.
