Got to go out for a short hunt yesterday and with the usual clad coins at the tot lot I hunted, I also dug this out of the woodchips. It read as a penny on my IDX using the 5.3 Bullseye coil. After I rescanned it under the coil a couple of times it still was reading as a penny. At first I was thinking it was made out of copper or brass. I only cleaned it with some warm water and a paper towel, and if it was copper or brass it would be unevenly discolored not shiney and uniformly the same color.
It is worn down quite a bit and looking at it with a 10X loupe and also a magnifying glass I could NOT find any hallmark on it.
This is my first ring found this year, and as I only have been out to hunt maybe 6 times at the most it is pretty good.
I have read where some 10K rings read close to a penny VDI. This ring looks like is has a few years age to it so also.
By looking at all the rings I found last year (gold plated),this rings coloring is much different. No flaking or chips like other plated rings that I have found, only a slight bit of pitting on the inside of the band.
I may just have a "real gold" ring. The marks on the stones surface are not bubbles but slight indentations from being banged around from years of being worn.
I am going to take it to a jewelry place and have them do a test on it, tomorrow.
Wish me luck on a real ring!!!!
