post gone...question regarding "banner" finds...

I had a fantastic find that I posted in Best Finds. I've only gotten 8 responses in a day. This is the find of a life time in my opinion. How does one get nominated for the banner??? Does the item have to be old coins or relics??? I already posted this question but somehow the post has disappeared!!

here is the original thread:

Some were there is a post that explains the banner choices and criteria for such. I am not sure were it is. Will try and find it for you.

Why should you even care ?
Personally, I've never clicked a banner find, don't even know what or where it is.
If you got into MD'ing for an ego feed or popularity contest, I think you're in for the wrong reasons.

I'm certainly not in it for those reasons but it is nice to have a good find recognized and seen by others.

Things don't work like that here. I have posted Canadian finds that are worth at least a thousand $$$$ here and I barely get any responses. The day I posted some mediocre American buttons worth a few hundred, everyone chimed in and I made the banner. A comparable feeling would be like driving a really expensive car and everyone compliments me on how good my tires look!
It doesn't matter what gets voted, it matters whether you or your friends know it is a good find. A bunch of strangers saying "nice find...banner!" will never compare to when you show it to a person in the flesh. You know it is a banner find and that's all that matters.
Nice ring BTW!
Dave.

Re: post gone...question regarding "banner" finds...

I've seen at least one find on the banner before there were more than four replies to the original post, none of which cried "Banner". (Of course that doesn't mean it wasn't nominated)

Final call goes to the mods, and I think in that case, a mod saw it, liked it, and just put it up there.

Then there are finds that really should be up there and they don't make it or it takes a big outcry to get them up there.

That's a beautiful ring, and the pic doesn't do it justice, I'm sure!

Didn't mean to get snippy with ya, I guess I did.

Was a stellar find, I think what it amounts to is, with so many recent posts, unless people start replying fast & furious right away, it gets buried before many get a chance to see it.

I usually just browse "unread posts" and browse through maybe the 1st couple dozen, after that I go on to other things, so I am sure I only see a small % of posts here.
If many share similar browsing habits, then most posts do not stand much of a chance remaining current for very long.

Everyone likes to be noticed either for their find of a lifetime or ugly looks. It is rare that I bother posting pictures let alone the banner, but this is my personal choice.

Maybe it's envy or something but...I rarely look at the banner finds. If I found something like that ring I could care less who knows about it other then the people I detect with. To me, a slap on the back from a buddy would mean a heck of a lot more than a banner listing. Oh...That is a super find!!! Good Luck.
