Hi all, I have this coin here which my cousin and I have been trying to identify for years. It is copper, roughly the size of a US Nickel, and it features a crown over an unidentified design, and I can make out the word ENGLAND beginning at 7:00 and ending around 10:00. I'm thinking it may be some sort of token rather than a coin? I don't know, but I would love to see it solved. Hi! The NG? you are seeing is part of ENGLAND (I can see it very clear with my eyes - it does not come across well in the photos, but it definitely says ENGLAND). The first picture, with the bend in the coin running in the same direction of a slash "/", shows it with the crown on top, and ENGLAND beginning at 7:00. As for the reverse, I see I didn't put a picture up. I see what may be leaves, as well as the word UNITED on the edge. Whether this is part of UNITED KINGDOM or something else, I do not know at this time. I'll try to take some natural light photos tomorrow.

I'd have to Guess Token Then.

I know of no Old coins with the word England on them.

I think it would say BRITANNIA for England

I'll do some looking though.
I don't know every coin out there :tongue3:

I was thinking token too.
And could it be true, you don't know EVERY coin?
To be quite honest, I am very surprised.

There is no bust on either side, and I still cannot figure out what the HECK is under the crown!

COULD BE A ENGLISH TELEPHONE TOKEN -- European phone tokens in the 1980's or so had the odd crease made into them to fit into the special phone booths --this was done to prevent folks from using regular "low value" as slugs of a sort ...these specialized tokens fit in the machine's slot --the phone tokens were of a "set" value of so many for so much hlocal cash value and you got so much time per token .

I remember using ones marked "GETTONE"...THEY WERE MADE OF COPPER OR BRONZE AND HAD A GROOVE IN THEM

Amazing! That's definitely it! The crown, the thing under the crown (clasped hands!), the words ENGLAND and UNITED, the leaves, wow! That's so cool! Thank you Bramblefind!

SOMETIMES IN DAYS OF OLD FOLKS "BENT" MONEY OR TOKENS AS A "LOVE GIFT" SO THAT IT WOULD NOT BE SPENT OR TRADED --BUT INSTEAD CARRIED IN MEMORY OF THEM WHILE AWAY FROM THE LOVED ONE THAT GAVE IT TO THEM

Yeah I've heard of that! My cousin has a couple old coppers we think that may have happened to. I don't know if that's the case here, or if it got bent some other way.
