Found this a few years ago here in California off the old trail. It's thick and heavy not thin like ones seen online. Could it have been used during the war, civilian use or both?

You have something VERY SPECIAL, there, fella...!
I'm going to bookmark this spot and see the input from folks-in-the-know
on buttons or buckles - I'm VERY interested in what you have there...!
SUPER Find! :icon_thumright:

Looks like a tongue portion of a tongue and wreath sash buckle. Broken off the rest of the tongue. Maybe California gold rush artifact, they look similar. Cool find.

Something like this.....E-mailIMG_0429.webp

So is it pre civil war? One page online says made between 1845-1875. I'm leaning towards 1850's but not sure. Just want to hear what others have to say.
