Rock maybe a preform they realized it was not going to work. That quartz is hard stuff. I have not seen any like that. Do they find gold in the quartz in your area? I bet they do.

Ive been doing some reading on this creek area where I am hunting at. It says they did find some gold in the creek in the past. Dont worry I will be in that creek as soon as it gets warmer. It doesnt look too deep from what I have seen. I like gold 8-)

hey rock,id get a bucket cut the bottom out and put some plexiglass in it and put it in the creek and look for the nuggets,i have herd about people doing this.

People have done that for years here..for fossils and artifacts. It works great for spotting points.

many many years ago when I read water meters for a big city.
the work got much harder when it rained. as all water meter are in a hole in the ground
which would fill up with dirty water
we use a Plexiglas tube with a large magnifying glass lens glue in the bottom
you could get the read without balling out all the water

I read water meters too..we did the same thing.
Mabey not as long ago..since I was putting the reads into a handheld computer ...I would also reflect sunlight of the computer screen into the meter box.

Rock, if you need books on panning for gold, let me know. If I can find my pans, you can use them too. I got into gold prospecting with my dad when I was about 15-16 years old. You guys think my imagination is at work on some of my Native American finds, you should see my gold. I did get into black sand, and have some vials of trace gold. A good friend of mine is retired from the sherifs department. He has found some nice "pickers". Time is all he has now, and he deserves it. All of his gold prospecting knowledge came from the books I'm offering you. Holler if you are serious about prospecting, I'll gladly lend you the info. Heck, I may throw a $20.00 bill in with the books, so you don't starve to death. Lol! It's a patient man's hobby.

Thanks for all the good ideas everyone.
