I found these buttons and wedding band on an old homestead going back to the late 1800's. There is nothing left of the house...just iron in the ground. Supposedly the wood from the house was hauled away a long time ago to build another house in town. I am interested to find out the approximate age of the buttons. The large one with gilt still left says Waterbury Button Co. and has three stars on the back. The smaller one has no stars. The wedding band is worn down to the silver lining on the outside and is stamped W.L & CO on the inside.

The backmark dates the button from 1849-1960 (if I remember correct. However the style of eagle I would say 1849-1875.

HI; All three buttons are Civil War issue. They have an I on the Eagles Crest which stands for Infantry. On the smallest button the letter looks like an A which stands for Artillery. They have no value due to their condition. Still nice finds though. Search the area more slowly with a sniper type coil and you may be able to find some silver coins from the same period ok. Good Luck. PEACE:RONB

Thanks for the help fellas...I'll go back when the cattle graze down the grass.
