Detector(s) used
Garrett Ace 250; Minelab Explorer II
Being sick, I have no possibility to go out for some time, so I post a bit of history from January, 2008.
Normally, Friday causes some kind of an itch to take detector and go somewhere. This week the cure had to be postponed to Saturday, but on Friday I got a present from my searching colleague - zinc token plated with nickel. Legend on it says "Camp of prisoners of war, Bayreuth". Such token were used as a substitute of money in existed here in Bayreuth camp of prisoners.

I posted this token, because already for a long time I knew that somewhere around there was a camp of prisoners of the 1st WW, but all attempts to find any info about it failed. No details, but...
Up to now I detected about 120 fields around our town, and there is one field that probably a good candidate. So we decided to visit it again and here is what I found in 2 hours:

Looks probably not very impressive but I always like stories behind finds. On the area 40x40m I found English, French, Russian and German stuff, mainly buttons.
Here is French one:

Another French_ underwear button of 10th infantry battalion :

German "analog" :)

Don't post english - too bad state after 3rd WW against farmers. Russian metal feels not much better, but after 30 minutes in secret liquid I could at least identify nationality and producer of this button (Brothers БУХЪ_ Saint-Petersburg)

The combination of finds on this field convinces me that there was tent camp (lots of tent rings were found here, too) of prisoners, mainly French and Russian (found before french ID tag dated 1905). Of course, I find some french and russian artefacts on the other fields, but they look to be lost during obligatory working on the fields and not so concentrated. Such camp explains also some exotic finds like button of french marine artillery (closest sea is in several hundred kilometers form here). Anyway, will look for more info and probably soon confirm or deny my story...

Next day I found new fresh field and it gave up a lot:

Some finds in detail.
Copper 1 Heller 1742, Brandenburg-Bayreuth, local coin.

Unusually large pewter coin dated 17-18 century:

The first silver of 2008 is in uncirculated state:

Gabel means "fork". Originally I was surprised and try to imagine a fork with such label, but then found that it is Patent for special "fork" for bike :).

On Sunday we went together with my son to the local forest just to get some fresh air and detected a bit.

south_02.jpg

On the one of the wild animal-made cross-roads we saw a victim of unknown natural catastrophe.

south_01.jpg

Soon we realized that it is an area of hard gas attack - huge dump in neighbourhood smelt so ugly that we hardly could breath. But unknown gas anyway blacked-out our brains.

south_03.jpg

Energy went away very fast.

south_04.jpg

What happened after that, we already did not remember, because some components of the gas cloud were quite strong...

Hallucination or reality??? All was mixed...

Thanks for viewing and nice weekend ;)

Great finds Sand! I have a list of POW camps throughout Germany, I will have to find it as I do not know where it is at this time because I use 4 computers, LOL. HH and I will let you know or send the list to you. HH, Mike

Awesome finds!!!!

I googled Bayreuth. There was a POW Camp there during World War I, but that's all that I could find out. There was no info otherwise that I was able to access on the Government server that I am on over here.

Sand:
During World War II, a subcamp of Flossenburg concentration camp was located in Bayreuth which was heavily bombed at the end of World War II. One third of the city was destroyed and about a thousand people died.
