Hi all,

I finished lawn work by noon so I had some time after lunch to enjoy what was left of a gorgeous day here in Missouri..I went to a 56-year-old neighborhood where I had previously received permission to hunt a yard. I had been there several times but it was a new day and it had rained on Sunday, so I decided to see if both of these factors made any difference..I believe they did!

Since I concentrated more on the front yard the other times, I rechecked the back more slowly and deliberately..there were so many signals - lots of scrap metal from when they reworked the outside of the house (aluminum trim, gutterring, etc.) but some of the signals were good. Here is what I pulled up..

Did you ever find something rare, knowing you'd never find another one EVER? I thought I'd never find another 45 rpm record adapter from 1950. Now I have two of these things! This particular type was the first type ever produced and was discontinued by 1953 (caused damage to records because they were hard to remove).

I thought I found a silver dollar when I first saw this come out of the hole..it turned out to be a Mardi Gras token.

NOV8.jpg

By the back yard fence I dug up this little horse..it's heavy, but seems to be hard plastic with metal inside..it also has a hole going through the middle..any guesses as to what it's from?

NOV6.jpg

My favorite find was this Deputy Marshal badge..it says "1959 by Top Gun Co." on the back. The pin on the back is still intact..too bad it has 3 of the star points missing.

NOV9.jpg

On the side of the house were the remains of a "Detective 250" cap pistol.

NOV3-2.jpg

I made one last sweep of the front yard and came up with a couple more wheats(1939-P and 1953-D), not far from where I previously found a pocket spill of 5 wheats and a silver Rosie back in October. I also found a 1972 Jamaican cent that is about the size of a nickel.

NOV5-1.jpg

The last thing I found is my 62nd ring of the year, a skull ring that was given out at the movies some years ago..I haven't found one of these in about 10 years.

NOV4-1.jpg

Over all, quite a fun hunt with lots of variety. I really enjoy searching the older private yards..lots of history of family life back in simpler days.

Wow, Natman, It always pay to revisit a site. As you can see from some of my posts, most of the sites we go to are sites that we have hunted time and time again.

Those really are some nice finds. Really Love to Horse and Badge. Thanks for posting those great pics also.

I believe it's from the 1996 move "The Phantom" starring Billy Zane.
Google Phantom ring.

Nat,
Thanks for sharing your hunt with us. Old private house sites are so much fun. You never know what you might find, especially when there are kids involved with the history of the house. There are so many times I wondered how some great find I made in the yard got lost there? When I am finding 'kid's stuff' in the same yard I can only imagine that a kid took something out of the house that he shouldn't have, probably to show his pals, just to loose it in the yard. We can only say a little thank you under our breath for this 'noble' task, but I wonder how many of those kids got busted and got hot britches..?

Nat,
What a neat variety of finds! Very cool. Looks like someone was into westerns with the cap gun, badge, and horse. Congrats on ring #62. It looks like something out of an Indiana Jones movie. ;D I forgot all about those 45 record adapters till you posted this one up.
Great post.

Way to dig em Nat, those are some great finds. Love the ring & badge.

Nice finds Nat and that is one cool ring. I like the horse and believe that the holes are for fitting a saddle on the horse. I think that it may have also come with a rider.

That was a good guess Roy, but the holes are too far forward..I found out that the holes are where a cart or wagon had been attached at one time..there's a few vintage and contemporary ones on ebay that are similar (but not identical) to this one.

I also found out that the horse is ALL metal..just painted over. The paint color is identical to the plastic horses I had as a kid.

Cool stuff!

I like the mardis gras token.

Is it the same on both sides?

No, I don't have a pic but the other side has a ship..above it says "MADISONVILLE" and beneath the ship it says "KREWE OF TCHEFUNCTE".
