probe

Know somone who uses one.

"DKinPA"

He Loves it.

good depth & Looks like it's nice & Solid

I use a Garrett pro pointer. It's been some of the best money I've spent for metal detecting.

It's well worth the money.

It makes a lot easier to recover targets.

Thanks guys, thinking about investing in one

I just got a Garrett pro pointer for my birthday a couple of weeks ago, I wish I would have gotten it a long time ago :icon_thumright:

I use and like best my AutoMax pinpointer (see Kellyco) which is about 8" long so probing deeper holes is easier. I also tried the White's probe that came with a detector but the stubby 1" or so probe didn't work for me.

Never tried the Garrett but I'm sure it works well too. With the pinpointer I never lose a "real" target no matter how small. But there still are those mystery signals that I dig a big hole around where I never find the signal source.

A pinpointer is more important to me than another coil, if you are allocating funds. :)

Garrett Pro-Pointer is my current favorite... don't want to go without a pinpointer.

I have a cheapo deluxe I got with a Kellyco deal, it works.

I just purchased Detector Pro Pistol Probe from the classifieds about 2 weeks ago. I can say, there is day and night difference between the depth and accuracy of these two. For example, I was able to pinpoint the target Before Digging, at about 3 inches on a clad quarter. Garrett Pro may perform as well but I would guess not better, not sure about that statement as I have never used the Garrett, it could be better.

just awesome! I have a vibraprobe too but the garrett beats the depth hands down.

Invest in the Garrett, you won't be disappointed!!!!

vetfan1,

I've been hunting for over 3 years. You get a beat, target as best you can with your machine. Then you go for the gold, but you just can't seem to find it. Thrust that pinpointer in there and wallah, you have a find in record time.

Had to send in my Sunray probe for repair so I bought a Garrett pro as a back up and it's just about as good as the Sunray. Good depth. It will pay for itself in no time. :icon_thumleft:

Garret propointer, don't leave home without it, really.

Garrett propointer all the way...
It cut my recovery time by 75%....
I also like that its heavier construction actually allows you to do some "digging" with it and not just probe (like many of the cheaper units). Its solid and is of size which is easy to carry.

I recently added the Sunray probe to my fisher, it's cool and all, but I'm finding it more cumbersome than just using the pinpointer. I have the AutoMax that came with my MDer from Kellyco some years back. It is too big and is seems to be getting tired, eating batteries faster than before.

I think I'll try the Garrett one.

What I can't understand is why someone would pay $130 for a Garrett when they can get a Harbor Freight pinpointer for $16.99! You can checks the fax here on T-Net. The electronics postings have a video which shows actual air tests for both pinpointers. They both pick up a dime at 3/4" by actual test! You can also set the sensitivy of the HF with an adjustment knob.

I had one of the Harbor Freight, and a Bounty Hunter pin-pointer and they are really toys compared
to the Garrett, in my opinion. When you use the Garrett you see why people are willing to spend the money. I gave my harbor freight to a friend and he always wanted to borrow my Garrett until he bought his own. Now his brother in-law and his detecting buddy have purchased one since using his.
I had a small problem with mine and Garrett replaced it with no questions asked, I also won one through Garrett's contest so now I am lucky enough to have a backup. And the things are tough, you can practically use them as a hammer. It feels good in your hand and is easy to use, just press the button to turn it on and off and there is no tuning or volume control. The power button is like a maglite flashlight button and its the only button. I got a nice finds pouch a plastic digging tool and a coin probe with mine. I think its worth the money if you can afford it, I've found most years I find more than enough clad to pay for one, its a good goal to shoot for.

P.S. Made in the USA

I am trying to understand why some people are addicted to the Garrett pin pointer. Here's what I got from the last post.
The HF is really a toy. Well it picks up a dime at 3/4" the same as the Garrett. Does that make the Garrett a toy?
You bought a Garrett and it was bad, they replaced it! For $130 they should!
It's tuff you can practly hammer it. Well, I treat my equipment with care, I don't beat on them.
It's feels good in your hand. I think they both feel like plastic in your hand.
There's no tuning knob on the Garrett. I guess not you can't tune it! You can tune the HF.
Maybe there both toys that do the same thing, but one cost 6 times as much.
