Purple Laker - Lake Superior - Help Identify

I recently went to Michigan and went agate hunting. I found this nice purple laker. This was my first rock hunting expedition so I am not familiar with rocks or minerals. Could someone tell me what this rock is made of or called. Does it have any value? It weighs 10.5 ounces. Also should I cut it open?

Look similar to charoite but I'm no expert on rocks.
Personally I think it would be a good one to put in a rock tumbler for a few days to polish it.

You'll probably have better luck at getting a "professional" identification of your interesting rock in TreasureNet's "Rocks/Gems" forum. That where the Gemologists and rock-hounds hang out.
