Putting a Smile on Everyone's Face

Though everyone might enjoy a 'before' and 'after' of my son Luke. Taken last March here in Western PA. I don't know who was smiling more...dad or son! Nearly identical points found an hour apart, 100 yards apart.

Nice.

Those look a bit like Meadowood blades - perhaps from a larger group/cache. Is the flint Onondaga?

I was thinking possible cache as well..
Considering the size and consistency of the points..
Check that field again!

I'm open to suggestions, but I typed it as a Madison. Pretty much everything from this spot is Late Woodland. FYI, same spot as where I found the pendant from my last post. Reposted here. Disregard the name of the pic (called it a gorget). I have heard rumor--fact actually--that burial sites exist not to far from this spot. Would that add to the 'cache theory'?

I WOULD DEFINITELY HIT THAT SPOT AFTER A HEAVY RAIN AND CHECK THE WASH OUTS AND RUNOFFS. THE MADISONS I HAVE FOUND ALL WERE FOUND IN THOSE SPOTS. SEEMS LIKE THE COME FLOATING TO THE TOP. I WOULD SAY YES TO THE CACHE THEORY IF YOU ARE NEAR A BURIAL. IM 10 MILES FROM THE CAHOKIA MOUNDS AND ARE SURROUNDED BY VILLAGES AND CAMPSITES. LOVE THE PIC OF YOU AND YOUR BOY . CONGRATS !!!!!!!!

Great hunt with your son. Good to see the next generation of hunters. I would not think cache as some sites produced the same point with the same available material over and over again. Though it was not un common during that time, that they were making madisons and guntersvilles, to put as many as 50 in with burials during the Mississipian period.
Many Mississipian burials have also been spread by the plough and up turns some fine craftsmanship. jmho

If the site's in southwestern Pennsylvania (looks like it in the pictures -- maybe Westmoreland County), the material is likely Loyalhanna chert.

For Penna. (& neighboring areas) chert ID you want Gary Fogelman's book on it.

I suspect, FWIW, that the Meadowood ID is the right call on the points (preforms), rather than Late Woodland.

Thanks for all of the comments and advice. I'm actually in North-Western PA (Armstrong County). Although I thought I was the first to discover it, this spot was fairly well known. I learned of 2 people...now very old...who have great collections from the area. Last year was my first year picking the fields. It is private property up a farm lane...very remote so you don't have to worry about passing cars figuring out what the heck you are doing there. If you look at my other posts, about half of what I found came from there. Needless to say, I can't wait for spring!!!

Search youtube for HutchOutdoors Armstrong County for a couple of crappy videos! I plan to do a better job with the camera next year. I'm not sure if they will post here, but some links below...
