Normally I wouldn't think much of it, but since it was mostly solid granite around it plus with the ruins up the hill, who knows. Like ya said, some old timer camped there and put it there toe down for luck. Then 130 years later. Some MDer comes by and finds it.
The path was used in the old days as a major travel trail in early 1900's, but I'm sure was even used prior to that for vehicles prior to the apache trail.
Since there was an Indian village that got flooded when they put in the dam. I think the old trails were and still are used or were made into roads.
Plus the ruins was from the Anasazi era. Cool views from them. The eastern ruins on the same mountain are what most of the tourists see. I need to go back to the ranger station to see if they even have record of this other site. I haven't gone to it because it is part of the monument area.
