Question on proof halves

Are all proof halves valuable? Are some silver and some not? Can someone educate me on this? I think that I found several "proofs" that aren't silver.

most proofs(halves) you will find are not silver. It is very easy to tell, and when you get a silver one you will know immediately(if you edge check it). I have been doing a fair amount of volume for 9 months or so, and I have found 3 silver proofs, and probably close to 100 clad proofs. They are pretty self explanatory with the pre 1970 halves. Then they quit doing silver proofs up until 1993 I believe(somewhere around there). Once they brought it back, the silver proofs are 90% silver, and have a S mint mark. Yes, they still do clad halves with the S mint mark in addition to the silver proofs.

Thanks, this answers my questions. I think that I have about six clad proofs..... Are they of any numismatic value?

I would say no to that. Just from what I have read from everyone else around here. Many have taken them to coin shops and whatnot and the general consensus is that they do not carry any premium. Especially since they were found in circulation, its hard to find one that hasnt gotten pretty beat up by the coin processor etc... I have since stopped keeping the clad proofs I find CRH'ing, unless they are extremely clean and in good shape, which doesnt happen often. With that said, you never know what people are willing to pay for, as they say, value is in the eye of the beholder.
