I was browsing the US Mint, it has the half dollar bags and rolls for sale, are they all from 2011 mintage?

I was hoping they have the silver ones in the bags or the rolls, since they charge a premium over the face value.

I was also looking at the 2010 Silver Proof Quarter sets for $39.95, are they worth the buy?

5 silver proof quarters for $39.95, 5x$6.5376 (9/22) =$32.69, I pay $7.26 premium, but they are proofs so thats a plus?

Are there any other sites similar to US Mint?

Thank you guys!! HH!!

In general, "dated" items that aren't a key date end up not being worth it in the medium term. For example, go to any coin dealer and you can get silver proofs from 1992-2010 for very little more than melt. Same thing with silver eagles. However, all 2011 issues have a premium in 2011. In 2012, the 2012 issue will have a premium and 2011 silver proofs will end up costing melt. And as far as I know, the US mint doesn't sell silver proofs in rolls or bags, they simply charge a premium for solid rolls.

You are much better off going to a coin dealer, you will often find non-2011 items selling at a fraction of what the 2011 items are selling for at the US mint. The only reason silver proof sets are so expensive today second hand is because of the high price of silver. If you look at the price of a proof set from the US mint (about $31 for a clad proof set) and compare it to issues of the previous years at your coin shop, you will find that most coin dealers can't even give away proof sets.

In all honesty, the best place to buy US coins is at your local coin dealer if you have one. Chances are they sell for a lot less than eBay and the chances of finding out that your coin is a counterfeit is a lot less. Yes, there are some reputable sites online to buy US coins, but when you figure in shipping, you are paying way more than you would at a decent local coin dealer. Now, myself I use eBay a lot for British coins which my local coin shops usually don't have in stock.

But really, unless you need something that says 2011 for a gift, just wait till 2012 and buy the exact same set for close to melt. Unless you think that silver is going to go so much higher that you simply cannot afford to wait until 2012.

Do you think the half dollar rolls/bags from US mint have silver 90%'ers or 40%'ers?

No. The US mint sells current dates. Other than the silver collectibles, there is no way to get silver from the mint.
