Radio Shack 1000 question...

Hey guys, i got my first detector (radio shack 1000) last year as a gift for some job that i did. Used, but its free, so i very new to this hobby. I will be mainly using it at soft dry sand.

Has anyone used one before when you began? Using one now? Any tips i need to know?

I tried it a few times and it works very good. Founds lots of coins at the local beach.

Most of us have upgraded a couple time so we didn't waste all our time swinging a detector that wasn't up to the task. But since you are searching soft beach sand keep the disc level low so you can hear pull tabs and you will find gold rings if you get the coil over them. Overlab some and go have fun.

I dont think i hide a Tesoro in the house yet...my wife will kill me...maybe one day 8)

But i just want to just try and use it for a while. Will there be a tone difference for silver or gold? I have tested it for gold and i do know that sound...i just dont have any silver around my house that i can think of?? Will silver bleep the same as gold?

I have a RS MD. I got it a few years ago. It does pick up coins etc. It is a far cry from whats out here now. Just for fun of looking, its great, but scares me to think I may miss something real value bothers me. Humm? Good luck!

i have one too or at least i think its the same model silver will ring "high" and gold on the low side dont discriminate anything they are too cheap for that just dig everything and see what you get and above all else

I just sold my RS 1000 for $40. I had problems with the machine falsing a lot. I'd hit sure signals, but when I dug, I found nothing. It was extremely frustrating after the 37th hole.

I upgraded to an Ace 250 that cost $212 including shipping. I'm now digging signals at 9 inches, and finding stuff every time.

Could you sell your detector for $45 on craigslist, and upgrade to an Ace 250? If so, you'll be thrilled that you did.

Yep used one at the beach in the dry sand without a problem for about a year and recently saw a family of 4 with them hunting the nc beaches in 2011 so it is capable not the best! Take a look at a silver u max it is one great unit! In dry sand and sometimes in the wet sand. Good luck & keep-a- diggin!!!
