We have old appliance, glass and metal dumps on our ranches in Texas. As a teen I cleaned out first the metal dumps, hauled that off for scrap, then seen how people where buying up the old claw feet tubs and old coolers that did not work so I cleaned the appliance on out as well.

I messed around a little in the glass dumps and would take stuff out but knew nothing of that stuff way back when. One day I will get back and go through it, plan on making a trip to our Junction ranch this summer.

Some of those old bottles are worth some serious money probably worth doing some online research if you find some that are intact.

Yeah, the ranch is Texas was the second ranch my family purchased when they migrated to the US. That purchase was around 1820 I guess and was not a ranch back then, just open land that used to be part of the old cattle drive trail. All the junk on that property we put there, glass they where always pretty careful with cause you did not want animals messing about, getting cut and then suffering. I can not think of a many broken items back then. Lots of cream containers, medicine bottles, lot of blue glasses too.

Any old junk that was worth something back then I took away and sold. The soda bottles that where refundable I could still turn in back then and did, they just did not take the metal crates that they came in so those went back in the barn just in case it was useful ever one day.

It had all started because we had around 2000 sections of irrigation pipe, so when I could legally drive to the city my grand father had asked me to take that down to San Antonio sell it at the scrap yard, he said get top dollar for it as well. I was so happy cause I got to drive the new, well by then it was a 2 year old F800 flat bed and trailer. That was like a five hour drive, but I stacked it full and got it to the scrap yard and the man working there said it was all aluminium except for the hooks on the couplings and that was steel. He counted up my first load of pipes and said he would knock off two pounds per pipe if I left it on them. He then said but if you have a hammer those couplings are so old it will not take much to knock them off.

No way at all those things weighted 2 pounds, more like a half pound each and I did not want to loose any money for the ranch so I broke them all off. Thinking back I feel he was just doing me a favour and him self so he did not have to have someone do it. LOL

But I made four more trips that week, and once it was over my grand father drove back up from one of our other ranches. I gave him those checks, was so happy that I could make the ranch so much money. He told me that was mine, and said that 700 and trailer is now yours to use and you need to clean up this ranch.

Ended up getting to know the weigh boss pretty well that summer, when I brought in all these claw feet tubs and Coke Cola Ice Coolers he said that he might give me 500 bucks for the entire load, or I could go see hiss friend. I met his friend and that crazy fella gave me 50 bucks each on them coolers and 130 on them tubs. That man asked me if I had any signs or more coolers. I just said no and left it at that, but my family owned the only beer joint in that town from the 30s up until the 70s, when it closed all those nickel and dime games end up in the barn, signs, all sorts of crap.

That ranch is the only ranch that I am keeping out of all the ranches; it is still a working ranch but its only cattle and very few at that. The hand that works the ranch was born on that ranch, his father was born there as well, and he has had a kid of his own who will likely remain working on that ranch when I sell all the other places off.

The cars and trucks on that ranch is something else too. Just buy new and park the old, 80 acres of old cars and trucks sitting there in the vary back of that property. But too darn far away to even be worth hauling off.

MDing that place iss great; growing up MDing out there you would always find some cool stuff, lot of items lost on the cattle drive trail.

But we will be headed there soon enough this year. The hand takes care of the old house that was first built on the property, but he says it needs to have a new heating and AC system put in. Figured since no one lives in it I should have a look to see what else I may need a contractor for. Get that old rock home sorted out. Last time I slept in there was around 2000, my wife and I took a trip there on leave from the Army. She always gives me crap because my family has ranches all over the world and we have gone to all of them of course but she says we always pick locations so deep inn the bush.

How are you accessing TNet. Have you tried clearing your cookies and rebooting your pc. It isn't the thread or no one else would be able to post pictures either. I have no problem posting from my desktop.
