RARE - 1/2 cent Liberty Capbust coin

I dug a rare 1/2 cent Liberty Capbust coin - Classic head - No date Ca. 1793 - 1809, exactly 22 mm wide. It was 6 inches deep & was found n the 1863 Confederate winter camps n Shelbyville TN.

Please chime in. I’ve triple cked the measurement & it’s 22 mm wide which per internet shld b 1793, but it’s definitely a classic head like the 1809 coin.

That's definitely a Classic head, 1809-1836. Coin sizes during that period were a little variable due to not being struck in a closed collar, also there's enough crumbling of the edge to bring it down to 22 mm. Nice find, half cents don't show up too often! I've found lots of large cents but never a half cent.

Yes, I agree - I've found (53) Large Cents but only (1) Half Cent - a 1829.

That’s about as good as it’s gonna get. Could try soaking in mineral oil to maybe darken it. But any cleaning is gonna remove the details that are left. Great find!!
