Rare Early 1800's US Diplomatic Button Dug Sunday

Well i went out to check a new house site spot today, and after finding it the picking were a little slim but i was not doing a thorough search like i normally do, decided to leave and come back another day, got home and looked at this big flat button and noticed the shield on it. Well i immediately called a buddy of mine and headed over to his place to show him this button. Well he was able to determine for me that it is a pretty rare US Diplomatic button, probably very early 1800's. Its a variation of Albert's OD 5A, back mark is W & R Smith. Pic's do not do the button justice, looks much much better in person. But I am still blown away to have dug a Diplomatic button.

All information I can find and have been told is that these buttons are pretty rare.

Fantastic button man. Any of those earky diplomatics are killer. That's in really nice shape

Phenomenal button!, congrats!

Would have loved to clean a little more but was starting to see a little pitting and stopped at that point, gonna leave as is.

Congratz on a cool button find!
