Rare(r) 1864L Indian Head Cent

Indian Head cents are very rare in this part of North America but I have managed a handful over the years. This is without a doubt the best condition that I have found...and the oldest by a long shot! The green patina is amazing and just can't be captured in photos.

Thanks to those more knowledgeable than me, this has been id'd as the rarer "L" version of the 1864 IH. Cool!

Baldingboy, if you rotate that it says "hi"



And as for the L variety, the L can be wore off the deciding facto is the pointed or rounded bust, my avatar is a non l see the roundness, or search my posts, I did a side by side somewhere. With the L wore off, it does lower the value & collectability, still its a pretty good coin though.

Yeah, I noticed that. Either way, a cool addition if it has to be scratched. Thanks for the tip about the rounding on the bust...didn't know that was a determination as to wether or not it has an L or not.

You guys aren't finding the indian heads out your way because they've all been dropped here in Essex County! They are the norm around here, I always seem to find a couple of them on just about every hunt I go on. Its like you guys with the number of crusty coppers you find......ridiculous.
