Indian Head cents are very rare in this part of North America but I have managed a handful over the years. This is without a doubt the best condition that I have found...and the oldest by a long shot! The green patina is amazing and just can't be captured in photos.

Thanks to those more knowledgeable than me, this has been id'd as the rarer "L" version of the 1864 IH. Cool!

Nice coloring.

Re: I Love the Patina on This!!!

They do age beautifully, as you can tell <-- from my pic, its my most favorite color of green

I'm not sure if I've found one of those in the last 5 years. Probably only a dozen or so since I started and the funny thing is I have found 3 flying eagles.

It does have a nice patina on it. We dig alot of them down here but RARILY do they have a nice even green patina like the one you've found. Congrats on a pretty one Romeo, plus its a War-time date which is an added bonus. :occasion14:

Great coin!

That's a beautiful coin Romeo! I love it!

I keep this one on my special finds shelf just because of its beautiful patina. So smooth and perfect - I love those patinas that don't rub off, and wonder why some end up like these and others as a flaky mess...

When I found it it looked like a typical field find copper, brown and cruddy...but I could see a hint of green underneath so I finger nailed the crud off. There's still some crud on it which I'll tooth pick off this evening.

I know what you all mean. I found an 1864 the other day with a nice patina. Someone had scratched "IH" into it. It was my oldest coin that I have ever found.

Not sure what you mean...American coins are not my forte.

I Googled it! Looks like the "L" version.

Re: I Love the Patina on This!!! 1864 Indian Head Cent

Baldingboy, if you rotate that it says "hi" ;D

And as for the L variety, the L can be wore off the deciding facto is the pointed or rounded bust, my avatar is a non l see the roundness, or search my posts, I did a side by side somewhere. With the L wore off, it does lower the value & collectability, still its a pretty good coin though.
