Looked up Diana jewelry 🏴‍☠️

upper left white gold was a Diana = real heavy think it was 18k
these 5 were found in 24 hrs from a old Caper cod hunt - pm sunset hunt and 2 others were found the next day
morning low and 2 = old class ring and center band next pm low
would love to have an outing like that again with the price of gold now - think i sold these when
price was around $1200

I have found that anything that has the orange peel look to the metal is fake, but clearly the pitting and places of discoloration would say that this is NOT real!

ring in middle with green you would swear was fake - was UK 9K - cleaned up nice

ring up top with eagle head would swear was junk - when cleaned had big pits was marked 10k and what was
left after cleaning tested good

Completely difficult to tell with photographs this one was even more difficult to tell in person in my hand. The weight was the only thing that made me suspicious of it being maybe good

Having in hand and experience. Here is one that came out of the water and it took me a split second to analyze.. right side gold All 3 are 10k

Your experience kicked in when you felt the weight..

Just to be clear, I have an acid tester at home and if there is any doubt I test it, orange peel look is a sign I have seen on lots of costume jewelry and never seen it on anything good. None of your “would have failed” items fits that description they simply have corrosion on them. If you have an item of gold that was pitted due to corrosion and gold is the most non corrosive metal out there, then explain that to me? 🤷🏼‍♂️
I’ve had 10k rings become brittle due to time in the sand. Some Gold discoloration due to same, but never pitting or clear corrosion on true gold rings

the eagle head ring actually once cleaned had not pitting - had craters all over it where the none gold metal
wasnt mixed properly with the gold but what was left tested good and i scraped it

I totally agree on the acid test, test acids are cheap and can quickly give you a verdict. Sometimes one may need to file or even cut into a gold piece to find out. But it works...

I believe sometimes the pitting maybe from the copper leaching out of the lower karat gold, then it gets rolled around in the sand and the leaching comes off? Leaving pitted area?

I agree with Casper, poor workmanship caused the issue and maybe even cutting the gold with to much of the other impurities/metals.

Look at the great info we got from Casper and OBN I mean come on. I’ve only found two rings that look similar to what they have found. It’s extremely rare one was 9 carat. The other 10 very old completely trashed! my friend found this one in an orange clay. Maybe that has something to do with it I don’t know. Definitely looked plated!

I'm sure the surrounds had something to do with the rings condition. I had a area on a shore bank where something of iron had rusted away and several of the targets were coming up rusty, or rusty looking. This ring had me fooled, came out rusty looking in spots so I thought plated junk. Got home and with a closer look and cleaning .. it was a keeper.

Notice a few of the coins are rusty also...
