Magnificent! I am sooo green with envy right now! :notworthy:

Great Piece of Quartz you have there!! :laughing7:

Nice quartz! Any visible gold?

Nice find! Whats the story, found with a metal detector? On the mine dumps? Or was it an eyeball find?

Mica on quartz?

Any feedback on your find?

All the best,

Lanny

hey guys sorry for lagging ha I got this on the trail to magnolia mine it was very strange I found about 3 chunks of quartz each are about 5 lbs the pics are of a few of the broken pieces that are all highly mineralized With pocket formations in all with barite crystals and manganese oxide . They were the on the bottom of a cliff that had absolutely no quartz they quartz in area. It's like they were just sitting there or they were chunks from some vein coming from the ground so please educate me ha. Here is another chunk that was right next to it.

When in doubt crush them out!

If its gold I would NOT crush it. It is worth way more as a specimen. Do they sound off with a metal detector?

Looks kind of like surface staining or an oxide patina. Test what you think is gold with conductivity meter, easiest way to instantly determine if you have a metallic substance. If it reads a very low resistance then you could have gold. If it fails to read at all then its not gold, high resistance and it could be an iron complex.

As far as why it was where you found it, could be some form of "float" from a remote location, could be a local anomaly and just have been a result of mesothermal or epithermal activity eons ago. Large crystals like this suggests cooling happened at a very slow rate allowing ample time for the quartz crystals to form. Could have been a result of previous prospectors ( left behind to lighten the load). Could be the outcropping of an un discovered vein. The possibilities are limitless, well to an extent.

Is this near the Magnolia mine in Park County? Or the "Magnolia" Mining District near Boulder? I am looking at buying a mine near where you found that specimen if it is in Park County. Lemme know because I have a pair of Whites Goldmasters and would be open to letting you use one to search for more specimens.

I like the vuggy quartz piece, as it has possibilities. These other pieces, not so much. If I understand you correctly the piece in pic #9 sounded off with a metal detector. That might be interesting, but what kind of metal detector and was it tested on the ground with the machine properly ground balanced or was it an air test? Hard to tell anything from a picture of course, but as oxidized as those pieces are would indicate pyrites and sulfides. No reason not to crush any of those rocks if they don't have visible gold showing. No value to a gold quartz specimen with no visible gold. Dennis

Just like women, looks can be deceiving-crush some and test-John

I'm not claiming any of it to be gold it was found near old mine that produced almost a million ounces of gold back in the day. I'm going to get a falcon detector hopefully this weekend so I'll wait till then to make any conclusions. Thank you all for your comments good or bad all are good info

This is another one I picked up. And I have scrubbed this for weeks no sulphide yellow came off while cleaning and is has soaked in vinegar what do u think

I myself don't get excited about sulfides. Good indicator of mineralization, but rarely contains any free milling gold. I would look, but to me it's a leaverite. Dennis
