Recently reached a milestone with the recovery of my 100th colonial silver coin

Bill, that is a stunning display of early silver! I've never seen anyone find what you do there, and even though I am happy with what I've got the coil over the last 10 years, there's a long way to go to get to 100! (probably the rest of my detecting days just to be close but can't imagine digging 100) A hundred early silver not to mention the great variety. I sure wish we had more great early sites like that, because it's where all my cobs are from, but the sad truth is we're down to the last remaining signals on our current spots and that age of site is getting close to impossible to find here. But we'll always have some other stuff. I wish I would have done that type of count with Rev War buttons but it wouldn't have the same effect because most were/are pretty ugly condition. Great post!

Hey Crusader .......

My oldest Elizabethan silver was a 1563 sixpence, with several others from the 1560s and 70s. Here's a pic of all the hammies found at one site here in SE Virginia.

Whats your theory on them getting there, maybe with the wear they came over in about 1620s

Crusader - these coins were found in 2 scattered caches. Actually, in one of the areas I found 7 in one hole deep in the ground after digging a shallow coin directly above. After recently stumbling across a great document while researching, I discovered who owned these coins and how they came to be there. I can't say anymore without giving clues to where the site is. Its a great story, and it has me hot on the trail of what could possibly be more caches on a nearby property that I've just started searching. Anyway, that's all I can say for now. HH ..... Bill

the cob I recently posted in the Spanish Cobs forum came from the new site. Found it in the first 15 minutes there, but no more silver has shown up since that find. Its a big site, and it will have to wait for next fall.
