Started out as a bad day. I was reconning some new area. Spent about an hour and a half in the woods fighting all kinds of bugs with no luck. Decided to go back to an old house site that I had been to before. Found this nice eagle with a "V". Pictures did not come out to well. Excuse the fork and the cork. According to Albert's this unit was in service during the Mexican war between Feb. 11, 1847 and Aug. 25, 1848. Shank is intact and reads Scovills & Co. with 3 stars on the back. Will try to get better pictures tomorrow.

Re: Regiment of Voligeurs and Foot Riflemen Button

Nice find Brad.. Still looking for one of those myself.

Sentinel and Kuger are correct. It's a Pre-civil war button and should NEVER be labeled as a confederate item. I could have worn it on my uniform last year but that wouldn't make it a Global War on Terrorism button.

Were they used in the Civil War by Virginia Soldiers? Absolutely, there are several pictures of rebels with federal buttons(I, A, C, GS, GS Staff, etc) and not one of them will ever be listed as anything other than a federal button.

Was the cork from a celebratory bottle of vino?

Thanks for the banner votes. Sorry that someone's previous disagreement got in the way. (Added to to the number of comments.) :icon_thumleft: Thanks to everyone for commenting and looking. Good Luck to everyone.

Umrgolf, thanks for clearing things up. Having never found Confederate buttons before I wasn't aware of the protocol in labeling button useage. Nice to note they were used by Confederate troops, but a shame that we can't say so. Hopefully I can continue to refer to my Block 'I' as Confederate.

As for Kuger, he can certainly take a lesson from Umrgolf's politeness and good manners.

And to Brad, I hope you won't let the discussion here take away from the excellence of your find. And apparently you should not refer to your button as Confederate, even though they used them and it was found in a Confederate camp. But we both know thw truth, huh? ;) HH

Note...if you are going to refer to me take me off Ignore(which I am honored by the way)and get out from under mommas apron.
If you were one to listen,Urm's info was exactly what I stated way back when, but you seem to only hear what you want

To the O.P. I dont see how any discussion takes anything away from your find....things will be discussed when posted, especially when they may be misrepresented

You two are killing me. I don't feel that a good natured discussion in any way takes away from a post, in fact it is welcomed. But you two are just plain fighting with each other. You both should take that somewhere else. Feel like I am in Junior High School.

I am not fighting with anyone, not even angry. Jr. High describes someone's behavior, but not mine. Have a great day, I know I am. :)

Great find! :icon_thumleft:
