It rained most of the day so I did other things. The rain finally passed and I managed to get out with only about a half hour of daylight left. Turns out that's all I needed. Found only 2 buttons and but one was this nice gem. Once I got home I started my research and was shocked to learn what I found.

Excellent find

Awesome find, congrats! :notworthy:

Banner Vote!

That's a very nice piece of history! Congratulations!

What an epic button find!!! :notworthy:

Banner-worthy button and spot-on research!

Is it "Left photo->cleaned button"...."Right photo -> as dug button compared to book example"?

If so what did you use to clean it?
Not familiar with these type buttons, but it must be rare. What did you find?

Great save and find on the Rattlesnake button and a piece of our History. Well Done.

Wowzer.....that's how we do it right there!

Banner all the way! What a grand-slam relic! Congratulations!

Fantastic find. A truly rare and unusual button as well as a great piece of history. I vote banner as well.

Banner that's an amazing find. Great for a display case better get back to that spot and keep rippin

Congrats on the banner find.

I forgot to mention that I gave this a banner vote!

Great find . Very rare button . This find is why I have an issue with banner on this forum. If it were a common date gold coin it would have been banner immediately but while your button is much less common it isn’t as glamorous. This find should be a banner find even if it received no votes. I know you probably are more forgiving than me but the “system” is one reason I don’t post my finds on this site anymore. I’ll get grief for saying this but I’ll survive.Hopefully I’ll see it up top.

Thanks! It does go well with my 2 GW's that I've managed to find here in VA. Yes, it is a phrygian cap. Makes me wonder if our patriot forefathers looked at it as a mushroom as well though.

Yes, I agree, this button should have been an instant banner. It's an incredible piece of American history and way rarer than most gold coins. I already gave a banner vote about a week ago, however, I'm still hoping that this find will make it up top...

P.S.: fever87, this is such an AMAZING find, I'm really hoping that it will get banner! The rarity and historic factor makes me believe that it will be a banner...
