I was wondering how I clean this button?

I would leave it as is.

She's a beauty! ONLY mechanically clean it with a toothbrush, wooden toothpick or the Andre's pencils, who are sponsors here. You can get them on Ebay. DO NOT USE ANY LIQUID and of course not water. You'll ruin it. After done, you can lightly brush it with a 50/50 mix of Elmer's glue and water.

It looks like just dry dirt on it, try tooth picking it and brushing it with an old dry tooth brush, I’d bet most of the dirt comes off.

Cool find! IMHO: use only a dry toothbrush and toothpick to clean away dirt, but not detail.
