Found this on Sunday when we went back to the site of the Vermont copper. Had absolutely no idea, but with the help of PBK and Treasure Net, they positively ID'd this for me. I'm ASTOUNDED and speachless but I'll try. :D ;D. When I took this from the ground I told my brother I found an old jackknife.(NO KIDDING) After about 2 hrs. in my pocket I took it out again and wiped the dirt off to find it said "Artillery". Never thought it was Revolutionary War, Never mind BRITISH! Many thanks to PBK and ALL who helped ID this Fabulous relic and piece of our nations early history! I guess there is alot that goes on behind the scenes of T-Net that we never see. Now I know! Will post this in BEST FINDS for sure, and with my post here hopefully my second BANNER find in a week. I guess, from what other T-Netters have already posted and mailed me about this, I may have surpassed the "Vermontensium" Vermont copper find, that I thought I never would. Hopefully there are more Revolutionary War relics at this spot we can share with all of you. Good Luck to ALL and I'm so wound up I don't know whether or not I'll be able to sleep tonight. (not kidding on this one either!) HOGGE

Fantastic find! You are really kicking @ss lately!!!

Banner material for sure!

I'd like to find out the meanings of the numbers, what Regiment, and what the letters actually stand for. Is 53 the number of the specific gun or person or Regiment. There was a 1st Regiment and a 53rd Regiment. I guess looking at the movements of troops that were documented may help. My guess may be 1st Regiment, "B" company or battery,53rd gun crew? :icon_scratch: There is still alot of the black paint left along with all of the white in the letters and numbers. I think it's made out of brass due to the weight and traces of patina. There is also alot of the leather from the belt left inside.

If it was ID'ed then why was all that left out? A surprise considering the marks mean everything, the relic if plain would not be a big deal.

Finding another example somewhere online or through research will assist you--one that has been fully ID'ed.

Banner find for sure! They just need a better picture, needs to shine up top. :icon_sunny: I'd love to see more pictures!

I'm guessing the only reason it wouldn't be considered for the banner is because you've just had something on there????? Really not sure why that would matter?? Great find anyway!! My personal opinion is that it is definitely deserving of the banner. This relic is a fantastic piece of American history. I'll scratch my head on this one too. :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch:

That is a find of a lifetime! Congrats! I don't know why this would not be a banner item?

By the way does anyone know if there is there a banner guideline listed here?

Here are your guidelines.....I'm guessing better pictures, the find is perfect. The one picture doesn't do the find the justice it deserves! Get more pictures, we wanna see this up top!

Finds must be significant, and plausible.
Images must be hosted on the TreasureNet server.
Posts with great stories are more likely to be selected.
If the post is one of the members first posts, it is less likely to be selected.
We make no guarantees as to the accuracy, or authenticity of the finds.
Finds must look good in the banner

I think you are right. The picture is a little blurry. Maybe they just need a better quality picture. Post a bunch more.

I don't think it would be too blurry when shrunk to an inch. :D

If it doesn't make the banner, I think you will still live on. :D

It is a great find and that is all that matters.

Kyle

P.S. I have never made the banner, and I don't care to make it...EVER.
