In my latest hunt http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/search.php?searchid=23677004,
I dug this brass piece that has some unusual features.
If you've recovered something similar and know its use please share.

Thanks Tony! You and 'firemanphob' nailed it. From what I see, this must be used as a part of a clamp to hold a large copper wire (perhaps related to a lightning rod). Many thanks.

Yup, that would have been my guess too. Bet it blew your ears off.

Thanks Smokey! Yes, brass always sounds strong and high like a large silver coin (to my untrained ear), but I do like digging it and save it all.

Cool find, Mcd! I'm on vacation at Panama City Beach, and sent the ole back-up ATP down with the in-laws when the drove down in December. But I too dug large brass today, a big brass lock that was about a foot deep in the sand...sounded good! And not that pop can blow-your-ears-off loud either...I thought I had a honker of a silver ring. Cool find tho, I don't think I've saw one of those posted before...Ddf.

Thanks ddf! Congrats on the lock. Brass holds up and gives us some great relics.
