This has to be one of the oddest finds yet, as far as locations go. I was on my home for the night and as I rounded the corner my wife spots friends of ours in a car accident. I pull over and run back to make sure all is well. I find out the other car took off and the cops are on the way. So I offer to take photos of the damage. As I bend down to take a pic, I notice what looks like a gold ring smashed in the tar of the road. It took a bit of prying with the old pocket knife but out it came. It was kinda bent up a bit but looked good. The lady in the accident is married to one of my detecting buddies, and he was standing right there next to me. I show him and he has some choice words directed toward my luck. All in good humor of course. So I finish takin pics of the damage and another couple pulls up and says they followed the truck that caused the accident and took pics and called the cops. The driver was not found but was ID'd and has a record for drunk driving. No one was hurt and we got the car home ok. The real salt in the wound is they just made the final payment last month. I sure hope they're luck improves. I got most of the tar off the ring and it is clearly stamped 14k and weighs in at 1.5 grams. I also did quite a bit of work to get it close to round again. Luck in the hunt.
