Rock or ??

I found this several years ago in the dirt and I have always wondered what it is. It looks like it was clay folded over and made round with a flat bottom. . It weighs 18 ounces and is hard as a rock. Does anyone have an idea what this is?? Or what kind of rock??

Looks like a Hornstone (flint) nodule....what state was this found in?
