I hiked back in to that spot real early morning near vulture mine Wickenburg Az and grabbed a couple buckets of that garnet matrix in qaurtz, I boiled a couple in vinegar to clean them up a bit and that green liquid is just simple green, anybody know what kind garnets these are and what the other minerals are? Thnx....

Tests, tests, tests... Hardness first! :)

Not sure on the garnets, you can't ID garnet species from pics. Despite popular belief they are quite a complex series/group of minerals.

You think maybe I should just bring it in someplace? Maybe a local jewelry store or how about a local lapidary?

Honestly Steve, you have some interesting specimens there, but in the big scheme of things their monetary value is near zero. Jewelry stores are staffed by clerks, their last job was probably a Circle K. You would be looking for a Gemologist, with the equipment and knowledge necessary for an accurate ID. This service is far from free, and you show nothing worth that cost. Look at images on the net of garnet specimens, and choose which one you like. No cost. Find a large, gemmy garnet, and go the professional route. Good luck.

Yeah I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, it's the same stuff from the last post, that sucks its not real valuable, I did put those 2 pounds of this on eBay and it sold fast on auction for 40$ hence why I went back to get so much more lol, 20$ lb is better than nothing, thanks Kray.

It sold faster than the fire agate I have on there, I put it on a 3 day auction for 40$ just to see what happens, I had four watchers but only one bid so that's why I'm figuring 20$ lb

Color me wrong Steve. $20 per pound is great! Congrats!

I do have the thought know since your first reply, what if I had 4 people watching saying yeah right let's see if it sells by watching and then just one guy like me who doesn't know all to much about rocks and minerals see's 4 people watching and thinks what a good deal and bids, that means I almost died carrying that over a mile for some new yard rock:laughing7:

I'll find out lol, I put a couple in muriatic acid, I'm curious, will muriatic acid eat through pyrite, if its really small and thin?

If its gold the muriatic acid won't eat through it right?20180805_140418-1.jpg

The gold should be fine. Some prospectors use acid to expose gold inside quartz.

If memory serves, no I doubt muratic will eat pyrite.

Hey guy's just a "question" I've been at google images again and I'm thinking the black mineral is tourmaline? By chance maybe those aren't garnets at all but uvite and dravite tourmaline?

Nope. Garnets.

I'll say no to. Structure and coloration are right for garnet.

Some more from one of the buckets, I grabbed several types from the small area. Im a fan of the blueish quartz with garnets but these are some of the other's. I was thinking to use super iron out for cleaning them? Safer than muriatic..20180808_085950-1.jpgI20180808_085917-1.jpg20180808_085853-1.jpg20180808_085902-1.jpg20180808_085816-1.jpg20180808_085758-1.jpg20180808_085731-1.jpg20180808_085656-1.jpg20180808_085634-1.jpg20180808_085630-1.jpg
