The bank holiday weekend turned out to be a wash out or should I say white out typical Easter weather heavy snow freezing winds, Friday and Sunday saw us manage about four hours detecting in total and all we had to show was one cut half hammered which my detecting partner got :-\ I had only planned going on these to days over the weekend so when the wife said why don't you go today I said no I'll stay at home I've been twice :D two hours later we were on the field. The weather being a bit better just the odd heavy shower to contend with, we were detecting the field the Celtic brooch came from only it was ploughed and seeded  again Michael winkled out another cut half hammered he must be on about 25 hammered for the year now :o I had to wait later on in the afternoon for my first good find and it was to be another first for me in the form of a Roman Umbonate Brooch Enamelled Spoke wheel design :o and another bonus the pin still intact after nearly 1700 years  this field is quite quiet so signals are not coming all the time this plays havoc with my neck and back looking down all the time but it soon paid off shortly after I was looking at my second Roman Brooch and biggest one to date this one being in the form of a Bow Brooch sadly the pin was missing but the spring at the top were the pin was attached was still in place and still swivelled round after all this time in the ground, hope you enjoy the pictures TK :icon_sunny:

I always put a bit of Olive Oil on bronze just to stop it drying out ::) I know a lot of people say you shouldn't but I have never had any trouble with it :-*

Nice brooch, I have a couple similar but not with as much enamel and never with the pin :o

Great job

Wow, Cool!!!!

That is absolutely beautiful.. what stories that brooch could tell.. divine find.. your a lucky man on that one.. love it.

Congrats you guys are in metal detecting heaven there on the old side of the big pond.
My dream is to take a vacation and come to England for a hunt. I cannot believe the condition your finds are in based on their age. When we find copper cents here a 100 or more years old alot of the detail is already gone.
