Hopefully the picture is good enough in my post.

Does anyone have the Roman Coin Book - 'RIC'? to Look up the Gordian III which Dad found today. Hopefully there are enough details on the post to find it, if not let me know? If it exists in RIC?

In the absence of additional information, I don’t know whether this type was issued in more than one denomination.

IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG

Its the reverse legend I'm looking for the 'AS' of Gordian III:
P M TR P V COS II P P (S C in field) - Gordian standing right with spear and orb. The book only goes up to IV.

Only if its an 'AS' and not a Sestertius which they look like. This Legend was on the Ses. & Ant. coins but can not find it on an 'AS'.
Mine is 23mm & less than 7g.
I have just invested in 5 Volumes of the RIC which I should get soon, so hopefully I can update this post.

Yeah, its something to do with the V year of tribute (TR)
So that would make it struck during his last year of reign AD244, so could be very rare :o

Then, you could fly me out to detect with ya! lol

Found it in RIC IV No.307, as we said its an As with rarity scaling of 'Scarce'. Not that rare really as the scale is:
Common
Scarce
Rare (R2-R5)

Good find though :icon_thumright:
