Just when you think things can't get any better, the sun comes out, the rain & wind stops & then you (in this case Dad) pops out a rare one in good nick!

10 Roman Bronze Coins
Broken Hod Hill Roman Brooch (1st C AD)
Nice Medieval Thimble8-)
Saxon Stap End - Inlaid silver - circa 7-8th C:icon_thumright:

Silver Denarius of Clodius Albinus AD195-96 (only lasted a few months). Its not on wildwinds & I can only find one example on the whole net:
Clodius Albinus, Fall 195 or Early 196 - 19 February 196 A.D.
£250 coin all day long ($420):headbang:

We have no other coin of the Emperor, in fact we had never heard of him.:laughing7:

Wow! Congrats on that nice coin. Looks rather well preserved too. Curious... How do ancient silver coins ring up on the detector?

Sweet Silver Denarius and in pretty good condition too!

Unbelievably beautiful as always Cru. I don't think I would even take a break to eat if lived over there!

What a beauty! Good score on better coins too. Good day, congrats! :occasion14:

I only eat at work when I'm bored....ie. all the time...

Great hunt Cru and that coin is in remarkable condition for its age. How often do you guys find coins of that age that come out looking so nice?Looks way better than most 150 year old coins we see come out of the ground here.

Congrats on that one. It's a looker for sure.

We get about 20 Roman silver Coins a year. As long as they are good pure metal, many are not, then you stand an OK chance. However, put in the mix of, years of use/wear & plough damage, your odds are reduced again. Then try & find a rare one in good nick & half your odds again. So we might get maybe 2 a year as nice as this, but this is THE MOST VALUABLE denarius we have EVER found.

If you don't sell your finds, you must be detecting yourself into poverty. What will you do with your collection ?.

Share it with those that are interested & keep the rest. Thankfully, only about 2 out of 25 farmers want any money, so we can suck it up. (in fact Dads the payroll, thanks Cru'Dad:notworthy: )

Well a huge congrats to you and your dad. It must feel great when you put in all that time and effort and you're rewarded with a rare find that's in amazing condition. The stars don't often align that way in this great hobby. A lot of factors have to be just right so once again great job and I hope the rest of the year continues in such a manner!

So you do sell then ?.

??? Where do you get that from?

I have only sold 2 items to split the funds because we couldn't afford to give the farmers half to keep them.

Exactly. At the early sites we hunt here nice finds register across the entire conductivity spectrum so no need to waste time gawking at numbers. Dig it all! Oh, and I almost forgot - awesome find Cru!
