Roman silver

Another piece of Roman silver: this time not a coin, but a small (about 1 in high) pendant made of solid silver and dating to the very early 1st century AD (found this afternoon on a new site).

And theres your answer. In the last 5 years responsible reporting has increased 10 fold. This is why it takes a 1.5 for them to process it. Actually you are wrong about the valuations. They are now more than fair. You will never be able to sell it for more than what they value it at. I know from experience & from many dealers. Your better taking the money they offer. My problem is with the time it takes. They say in the guidance that after 1 year from when you hand it in you should get the money or the item back. As you know this never happens & they should try harder to stick to the rules or why should I hand it in within 14 days if they take over a year?

yea i get 14 days to declare it and they get 2 years to get back to me
if they want me to play the game then they should play it back, untill then count me out.

just so you know i never sell my finds so money isn't a concern but loosing my finds is

[/quote]It will only get bought if a meusem is interested and has the money also it can take up to three evaluations to get to a fair figure.

I'm the same, no amount of money can replace my finds.

I detect with my Dad who is a Christian & he follows the Laws of the land (well most except driving ).

I do worrying about not getting them back but I believe that those who do the right thing will be rewarded in the end.

I totally understand where your coming from. We all have to live with our own moral code & you do what ever makes you happy. I make no judgement.

All I would say that if you get a rare Celtic or Saxon coin which you do not have to hand in please consider recording it with the CCI or EMC for the greater knowledge? (this can be done by email without handing over)

Yes this hobbie is hard work but must be one of the most rewarding past times bar none

i record all my worthwhile finds with the "portable antiques officer" but i do this on the understanding it is logged for reference use only i.e location and depth but thats all
The first time they steal one of my finds will be the last
