WELL I HAVE DONE SOME REASERCH.

Very interisting, i have found some documation from the sawmill 30 miles from the area in question.

time period is from 1860 to 1867.
i will go back to the book and check my story , but.
in 1861 a man, x military man, was shot near the island with the bolts, he was taken to the mill , then he died, it was said to be a accident.
whats interisting is , the island where the bolts comes from, has his name.
and no, there are none of bem boards near the bolts, but there are some on the opposit side of the island.

1862 the indian agent , who had his own mining claim fell off a canoe, but then witnesses said he was stabed and taken out to sea.

the chief was arrested but never convicted, no evidance.

1864 the mill shut down, later the owner of the land and mill begged the gov to send in a war ship, indians where to hostile and he feared for those at the camps where the bolts where. no mention of what happened to the loggers and miners, but given the amount of timber taken to the mill there must have been a lot of them.
1867 the area/mill town was abandoned.

1887 the indians all died from small pox. some made it to a lake and survived with a story they refused to tell.
1996 i asked a elder " what happened to all the loggers who logged here, long ago"

"we killed them all" he said.

its all just history now.
i will re read the story and post more accuritly.

hmmm
