I hit some shoreline today. My buddy and I were en route to a spot that he found his cannonball at. Unfortunately, the massive amount of rain the other day changed the plans. We needed a boat to get there. What was a shallow little crossing turned into a neck high affair. So much for that cannonball....

We tried to walk around, but we ran into a cabin and a dog that heard us a mile away and started barking. Eaaaasy boy. We turned around. Poison ivy all through the woods too... I was walking around like one of the guys in the Vietnam newsreels, detector held over my head.

Anyway, as you will see in the picture below, the walk-able shoreline is a nightmare. It didn't yield too much.

On the bright side, the RP button was only a couple of inches down. I am surprised that it kept its form. I have found others in fields that were in worse shape than this one.

Next time, I am bringing a small inflatable boat!

Pewter holds up well in continuous damp conditions. It's the changing conditions/ploughing/chemicals that kill field finds.
It saved the day.

A nice one considering the conditions!
I don't much care for digging in those conditions either, I remember trying to dig at one site a few years ago, you had to flip over several large rocks just get to soil, then start to find a place to get a shovel in.....no fun at all!
Your perseverance paid off

Nice save on the button it still has lots of detail. Now that's a shoreline where one could crack a coil hitting a rock or two.

Great find GIO!!
I have been looking for a REAL one of them, since I found 5 fakes.. Love to add one to my collection.
Is the back gone?
Ps, I though IP, was the only one that finds them??? Lol

Great looking button. I'd flip a lot of those rocks for that one.

Thanks guys.

Yes, Vino...

The shank is gone.

Crusader, thanks for the info! I'll be sure to keep digging those pewter signals on the shore.

Nope lots found, and the guy I know who dug the most is not even close to my area, so I assume the guys close to where he is, have popped their fair share. They Are Rev War but not in the same category as any other Loyalist marked button. Sort of like a USA pewter compared to anything else for the other side.

I knocked the Deus a good dozen times. I cringed every time. A couple made me yell out the F word.

Back to some fields tomorrow... There is shoreline nearby there, but it is pebbles and sand! Digging will be easy for my day off. The farmer wants me to find his survey marker... Hopefully it doesn't take me too long.
