Ruby - Is it Real

I have a ruby ( I think ) set in a mens wedding band dating back to 1925 and I was wondering how to tell if the stone is real.

A Gemologist would probably be the only one that could tell real from synthetic. Synthetic ruby was first produced in the late 1800's, so many of the rings out there contain synthetic rubies in most cases.

Most Ruby sapphire will have inclusions in it that are a dead give away, also color fading and zoning.
A competent jeweler will be able to tell you no problem.
