I have been searching the SanteFe Trail in Southwest Kansas. I have found several items but wanted to post this first. It is a lead Ball shot with a diameter of .526 in. or caliber. It appears to be never fired. I have researched the size of this Ball and most information describes it to be a Ball from the M1819 Hall Breech load Rifle which was assigned to the 2nd Dragoon Regiment stationed in Missouri. Further research would limit its use between 1836 and 1840 and may have been used to protect Pioneers from Bands of Indians.
Does anyone have any knowledge of Firearms for this period? Can someone post or correct any information?
