Set out Saturday and really beat the streets hard. First sale I pulled a few pieces of jewelry and a VCR for my brother. Bought a light up Lowenbrau clock the guy threw in 2 other beer signs ( a beat up Schlitz sign and a crappy Miller Lite sign). Stopped by another and saw a lot of high end stuff but not much I was interested in. Was unable to buy a Burberrys coat for a decent price so I asked how much for all the jewelry? $10 or $5 if I leave the watches. Done because the watches were all cheap junk. Eyed a really nice wooden organizer display box - $5! One of the nicest pieces I ever bought. Looked like Pier 1 at first but it has way too many signs of being "old" so I will say it is a real antique. Already displayed in my house - not for sale. Finally drove around some more, went to 2 really awful estate sales, was about to call it quits. Saw 1 more sign and the sale was almost in front of me so I stopped. Glad I did because I grabbed a little baggie with a few "gold chains" inside for $1. As soon as I laid eyes on it, I saw the thin chain and I knew it was real.

In the end I ended up with:
-pile of sterling jewelry including 1 silver watch
-Seiko Lassalle womens watch
-14k chain/pendant - 2 grams
-one of the nicest pieces of antique wood I ever found in the wild (the wooden display organizer box)
-1 sealed LP
-freezer bag full of costume jewelry
-3 beer signs
-VCR

Also, on a side note, I had new tires put on my truck and they threw the old ones in the back of my truck. They were 35" mud tires with decent tread left. I took them to the local scrap yard and sold them to a guy who I kind of know there. I ended making back half what I paid for my new tires. Thats a "win" in my book.

What do you do with the costume jewlery? I bought a gift box full with a floor jewlery stand for 20. It's all avon with a few other designers in it. Some sterling and the gold tone stuff. I've split it into lots, should I sell individual lots or individual pieces its all 80's and down avon stuff. Come to find out the guy was a rep for our district got a flag lapel pin a district 62 pin and a wash dc tie clip district 62 and a gold tone money clip with a 2g sterling 1776 token and a sterling indian bracelet. What should I do with them?

Charlie Ashmen Organ Favorites Ha Lu WA SA Bible Camp | eBay

This is the ACTUAL record. Looks like the estate sale company tried to sell it on ebay but failed due to a poor listing, IMO. It is a recording of organ music from a NJ based bible camp. Still sealed on an obscure record label.

First, if you have not already done so, double check the pins etc for gold filled content. They like to mark them underneath the backing clasp.

Whenever I sell at the flea market or my own yard sale, I have consistently sold the following 3 items as the majority of my sales: records, jewelry, tools.

That being said, I would try to sell this stuff at a flea market!

Here is my recommendation to sell costume: Take out all the jewelry you have that is worth more than $2 so you can sell that separately. Then take out all the trash, junk, crap and throw it away. Then find some old shoe boxes or those small rubbermaid organizer boxes. Sort out the jewelry into 2 lots. I have a bin that is mostly earrings and another bin that is everything else. I then wrote in big black marker "50 cents each" on the container. I sell the crap out of this stuff. People sit there and pick through the bins for up to 30 minutes. I usually offer a discount to anyone who buys a handful of pieces.

If you decide to put a few higher priced items for sale at your table, dont put the good stuff near the 50 cent bins because it will get accidentally mixed in to the bulk bins. Also, if an item is high end or 925 or such,m I make sure to mark it as such. That way, you can charge a higher price and justify it.

That will help me out alot. I was just going to lot it out on ebay, but now i think I'll just hold onto it and flea market it next month. I'm thinking of just doing that anyways. This ebay is to nerve racking for me lol. It's the thought of it not selling that is the worse for me expecially since its all inventory build up, so I need at least a little back to keep buying lol. I say this with the best intentions: Ebay is tough for beginners and it is clear you have a lot to learn. I dont want to see you get burned. Please, tread lightly into the ebay game and make sure you know what you are doing before you dive in too deep. If you read, read, and read some more you will be able to pick up the tricks in no time. Just follow the posts on here as there is some priceless advice being offered regularly in these parts.

Good advice but some things depend on your area & exactly what you call trash, junk & crap. I call "trash, junk & crap" broken pieces, single earrings, loose beads, etc. In my neck of the woods you can put all that in a Ziploc & sell it to crafters. Quart bags full sell for $7-10.

Ebay is tough for beginners but I figured it out and didn't even really know how to use a computer yet. My first ebay experience was an auction listing for a large double Sprite sign that I had bought at a sale for $35. This thing weighed almost 40 pounds, was almost 3 feet long and 2 feet high. This was also my first experience packaging an item. Needless to say, I didn't charge quite enough for shipping which is the most common mistake for ebay beginner sellers. Anyway the point is, if I can do it with 2 months of comp. experience then anyone should be able to figure it out. It may take you a few hours before get your first listing done but after that it will get easier. There is nothing like watching an item you paid a few bucks for getting bid up to several hundred dollars on your first listing ever. That was what got me hooked to selling on ebay. If I were a new seller (or an old one establishing another new seller account), I would start out by listing small dollar items like costume jewelry. This will help you build up a decent feedback score much faster. Just make sure your paypal account is a "micro account" and have payment made to that account for items less than $15 or so or the fees will eat you up.
Anyway, sorry to get off topic here. I think Ben gave good advice when it comes to the costume jewelry. One more note though, I generally separate the signed from the unsigned stuff because anything with a signature will tend to get a little more, even the cheapie Avon stuff is good for a buck or two each (or more) versus .50 for regular unsigned jewelry.

@Nickleanddime - A good way to get started on ebay is to find a few things you already own that you don't want any more. Make sure they are relatively small items that are easy and cheap to pack and ship. If you list items you already own, you are less likely to stress about it if it doesn't sell right away. The idea is to list and sell items until you get familiar with the process. It should only take a few times to get comfortable. Be sure you take good pictures and disclose any known flaws. Good luck.

One more piece of advice for the guy who needed selling advice: In terms of good things to start off selling, I highly recommend selling clothing. I started selling on ebay a while ago, and my first items were some jeans and shirts and coats I had laying around. People usually know exactly what they are looking for when they by clothing on ebay, so it is super easy to list, and it can't break in the mail. It won't make big money unless you know what you're doing, but its a good way to pick up some seller feedback. Just a thought.

On another note, nice finds Jerseyben! want to post a picture of that Schlitz sign? I collect schlitz stuff so I'm always a little jealous (in a friendly way) when other people find it.

Ok so I have to laugh because I just went and plugged in the sign to snap a pic for you. Thats when I realized it is actually a SCHMIDT'S beer sign. Lol
