SWEET. Never expected it in the spot were were hunting…..
Scouting some new digs I google earth a place that has a little clearing. I check the auditor’s web site to see when the homes bording in the place were built. 1948 to 1960. Ok so maybe some silver rosies, mercs, wheats. Sounds ok. I thought we’ll give it a little and then go to plan B. So we get there and it was very windy and cold. We dig some clad and junk and after about 20 minutes I tell Nate we should go to plan B. Just as I’m telling him he gets a good deep signal that turns out to be a wheat penny. Ok, I tell him – another half hour and we go to plan B. So off I go. Dug some clad or junk. Then I got a signal that seemed like a bottle cap. Well, might as well dig it. Cut a plug and locate at about 3 inches into the plug a very small circular object. Couldn’t believe what I was looking at when I rubbed some dirt off. An 1858 Half Dime! No way! So I run over and show Nate. We were pumped and definitely staying without any time limits! Every good signal after that had visions of seated coins going through our head. But nothing else from that era surfaced. Did manage to pull a few silver Quarters and some wheats from the place and Nate also managed some keepers. All in all a great few hours.
