Scouting a new site

Did pretty good for about 2 hours.

We've got 2 coins. Both are beat beyond recognition. The small is likely a Skilling Banco - late 1800's. Quite common find..
The large one is beyond ID, though likely quite old as well.

Iindeed. Large fields are rare here, but we have many small ones scattered about. Actually, the largest field on this permission is like 140 meters or so.
Has to do with the moraine/soil. Back when Swedes found a small patch of farmland, they'd call it "lycka", roughly "Good fortune".

Literally scouting since I found little documentation/maps nor archaeological digs of the farm.
In general my area is poorly explored, documented and well... Makes it interesting.

Never looked for dark soil. This is my first year doing fields, was mostly a beach hunter until this summer.

Been keeping an eye out for pottery, slag and of course listening for concentration of iron signals.

Been keeping an eye out for pottery, slag and of course listening for concentration of iron signals.

The combination we look for includes the 'lie of the land', close to a water source, dark soil, iron nails, pottery, & our most important indicator is some pieces of lead slag(or pot mends), although some sites has bronze slag. No lead=no site.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. In the top left of the pic there is a copper-alloy lump.
Planning on going back for more scouting later this week. The weather's been awful. We've had rain continuously since Sunday.
