Selling CRH Finds.

Hey All! Wicka here
Well, it's that time... I'm going to sell my "undesirable" finds, (pre1960 nickels, and wheaties)
I'm going to my local coin store who usually gives me great deals when I go and buy, but wonder how he will treat me when I go to sell...
I'm thinking of [AT LEAST] .08$ per a pre 1960 nickel
and [AT LEAST] .04$ for a wheatie of a common date, and more for my wheaties in the 10's, 20's, and 30's

PS: Doing this to upgrade my BANKROLL to $500 so I can do boxes of halves ect.

We have personally not had any luck at the LCS. Many have told us that nobody is looking for war nickels, ect.....so they don't want to buy them. We sell all our stuff on ebay which does fairly well.

err. 400 total I think (willing to part with) I ofcourse am keeping my collection of wheats...
10 or so in teens, 10 or so in twenties, about 30 from the 30's and rest are 40's and 50's

I heard online for pre 60's nickels people pay $6-7 minus shipping and fees, so maybe a dollar or 2 profit on a roll, but if you have a ton of rolls it might not be a bad idea. Just ask your parents mine let me sell my copper pennies and I haven't tried pre 60's nicks. The wheats I'm keeping because I like them.

My guess is that your LCS offers 2-3 cents each for all the wheaties regardless of date and makes no offer whatsoever on the nickels.

I think you'd probably do better by skipping the "middle man" and selling on eBay.

On ebay, if you had a lot more wheaties you could get 5c a piece for probably selling them to one of those "unsearched roll sellers". If I ever sold the wheaties I would wait until 5,000 or so and sell them for about $200-$250, any low that and shipping starts to eat you up.

Hey wicka. I haven't sold any wheats but others have said a common wheat cent goes for 3 cents. I've heard some on here talk about selling pre 60 nicks at a profit but I'm having a hard time seeing why they are worth more the 5 cents. I save them in the hopes of being able to profit but I will believe it when I see it happen for me. Looking forward to seeing how you make out. Good luck.

I second that. I hate to tell you, but most places will be that way. eBay or Craigslist is the way to go. Higher profit margin. My LCS offers .03 for every wheat unless it's a key or semi-key and doesn't buy any nickels except for the keys there as well and low balls you on the silver nickels (ex. if the sell price is $1.50 *scrap value* then he buys them for .65 or .70 cents.)

You could get a little cheapy coin folder and fill it with the extra pre-60s you have then sell it that way. I've known several people get some nice cash for those... So that could be an option too.

2 cents on the wheats most likely and most likely will pass on the nickles -- most coin stores will buy only older silver coins at silver scrap price unless its a rare high dollar collector coin in very nice condition and then they will tend to "low ball" and nit pick the condition so as to offer less --of course when selling the exact same coin later on , they tend to "high grade" the coin as much as they can --but thats how they turn a profiet asnd keep the doors open and lights on
