The latest effort produced 2 more hammered coins. A tiny cut quarter of Henry III, 1247-72. And a broken half groat of Henry VIII, 1509-47. Three lead artifacts also came to light, 2 medieval lead weights and a lead pencil, slightly bent but full. Starting to tell between metals better now with the Deus, solid sound on silver, high tone on copper, and mixed tone on lead.

Robert.

Way to stay hot Robert. I didn't realize the practice of cutting coins went back that far. I've found many silver coins here in the US dating between 1550 and 1700, and I don't believe any of them are cut. But during the pistareen era (early 1700s) almost all I find around here are cut (over 80 so far).
Hello Bill, 80 that's great . Cutting hammered coins went well back. I've had late Saxon 10th century halves and quarters, also Norman halves and quarters.
Robert.
