Hello My Forumite Friends,

The month of January and the beginning of February has been very productive for me so far. All the recent rain we've been having has made the park turf come alive with deep signals. On Tuesday, I managed to find my 50th silver coin of the year so far. All my coin finds have been coming from previously well-hunted (Explorer'ed) parks. I've been patiently/persistently/methodically detecting these parks, and picking out deep coins amongst a plethora of low-mid conductor trash and modern clad. The only exception to my silver finds was the '45 Washington, which was found on top of an eroded hillside on Tuesday. It was just sitting there, all shiny. I called Mike(ratman) over to look at it before I picked it up. It was amazing to see a shiny silver coin sitting on top of a bunch of dark colored rocks. I'll take it!!

I've also been finding deep pieces of silver jewelry. One of the pieces is a southwestern style ring, which I'm sure was lost sometime in the 30's-40's based on its depth, and the coins I was recovering from the area. A woman inscribed(scratched) her name on the inside of her ring. I cannot make out her last name, but her first and middle name is "Virginia Kathryn". Another interesting piece is the square/rectangular one. It has a gold flower on top. It could be a ring or some other decorative item worn on clothing. It was recovered at about 7".

In one of the pics, you will see a chopped wheatie. That was a special find. I was able to find both pieces about 8 ft away from each other, around 5-6" deep. I accomplished this only one time last year with a Rosie. Finding the other half is like finding a needle in a haystack. With the chopped wheatie pic are a couple of 1909 (no S or VDB) pennies, along with a '15S semi-key wheat. On Tuesday, I found a wheatie spill composed of 8 wheats, the earliest a 1909; the latest, a 1935, including the '15S. They were found on the same hillside where I found the Washington, under a fallen oak tree in an 8" x 8" area.

Lastly, is a cool keychain FOB item I found on the same hillside. It's a medal honoring all members of the 1st infantry Division of the Army, which is the oldest since it's inception in 1917. The strange looking key with no loop hole was found next to the medal.

I'm taking a few days off of detecting, and helping my girlfriend's family at a very large Asian New Year fair/festival for the next 3 days. Based on how I feel on Sun., I will be back out on Mon. or Tues. Good luck to all!

HH,
CAPTN SE
Dan

Nice digs Dan. We just got out from under 8" of snow and now the ground is freezing again :-\
I'm sitting here with 3 detectors right next to me and the Harley 3 feet from the TV...so I guess it could be worse :D

Lessee, I only got 48 more silver coins to go before I catch up with you, LOL.

What a great bunch of finds you got. You deserve 'em!

Ray

Wow....that's some great stuff! Wish I could find stuff like that around here! WTG!

HH,

Wow, where do you live ?? Next to an old MINT??!!
Or maybe the hole-in-the-pocket community center?

Tell us your technique - do you use a larger coil, or is it the
tried-and-true patience and persistence?

Dan the Man,

What's up, my man? I am sorry that I didn't respond earlier. I had a lot going on during the past two days, so my posting has decreased...heck, my posting has decreased over the past month. LMAO

I see that you are still the main man with the wilver! Congrats, my friend, on the wilver recoveries.

Oh, good luck at the festival. You are a good man to be doing that kind of work. Keep the passion high, man. :)

Just a suggestion for the newbies like myself, if you think about it, can you post a photo of the park, I love seeing where people are finding things and what is around there. thanks. you are inspirational!

Congratulations on a great start to the year I'm happy for you.

But the year just started! Boy you sure know how to sniff 'em out Captn, WTG and it's cool you found both parts of that wheatie.

you are killing me Capt..........I lived in Long Beach for 17 years & never detected! I moved to Idaho 2 & 1/2 years ago & started hunting shortly after. I gotta know where you are hunting at...........Ive thought old Cherry park on Ocean Blvd & Cherry would be a good place, certainly any yards in LBC would have the possibility of producing silver & jewelry. Id like to get back soon to visit friends & family.........maybe we can hook up fer a hunt or two, eh? If you dont want to say which parks yer hitting in forum (damn pirates) please PM me........I gotta know! ;)

WTG Captn_SE... I'm trying to keep up with you ;) ... Like that will happen...

HH Robert

That's quite a haul already for the first month & a half of the year, congratulations!

Nice finda Captn, off to another great year. I ordred a Exp II coil to replace my slimline as well, looking to see the improvements that makes, take care...

Great bunch of silver! (and other stuff)!

The 1st Infantry Division ("Big Red 1") token / pendant / medal thing is very nice.
First one I've ever seen.

Very impressive. All that with the SE huh? That military token is cool!
Maybe someday you can make a video of you in action. We can learn from your techniques.
Thanks for sharing your finds.
