Managed a day of work so decided to hit the Roman field, (or that's what I planned) the UK has been experiencing some very severe frosty conditions this week so it was of no surprise that when we reached our field it was rock solid, three days of minus 6 degree centigrade it was pointless going on as the field is in seed and digging in this would have caused to much damage to the crop. After a quick drive to a nearby farmer we secured a ploughed field with no crop in a bit rough but beggars can't be choosers, after a quick walk across the field to check how hard it was we decided that we had come so might as well give it a go, first signal was a scrappy Roman bronze which luckily was right on top the ground being like concrete, then I picked up an Iron Medieval Key again right of the surface, ten minutes or so further on a good two way signal and there right on the surface again was a Hammered Coin of Elizabeth1 (half Groat) Later in the day I managed another Hammered of James1(penny) and not much else came after that good start but poor ending, any way here's the pictures ::)

Awesome finds. Hard to believe old coins like that are just laying there on the surface to be found. And so many old ones. Congrats.

Ground looks good to me.

Well done, a Charles I penny are rare in my experience.

Your clearing up on the silver this year. We have already covered 6 acres (B. Grass field) systematically with just one blank hammered. But we will stick to it until we get something as good.

Very cool key, never had an iron one :o (proves what we were saying the other day about digging it ;))
