I now have 8 new places I can detect, once things thaw. I lost a lot of trees in this ice storm. The trees ripped up from the roots.

You are absolutely correct Iron - In fact, that is one of my secrets, or used to be. I would follow tornado's damaged areas. One great story is in Austin Minnesota at Todd Park. There must have been 30 huge oaks knocked down in the park. I detected each tree and found some great old coins. The best being my first silver dollar 1926, and a silver half dollar. Good luck and let us know how it works out come Springtime!

I used to enjoy winter before I started metal detecting. Now I sit and count the days until spring and get jealous of people who live in climates that allow for year round detecting..

I hear ya! I did find 2 new places to detect when the frozen tundra decides to thaw and the blister on my hand heals from my last attempt to chisel my goodies out of the frozen ground....sigh.

Sorry to hear about your trees. Its sad to see them lying on the ground and a whole lot of work to clear them.

true, but woodfires smell soooo good! always a silver lining

I live in eastern Wisconsin; just starting getting into hunting late last fall and I am so jones-ing to get back to detecting that I'm just about ready to start crossing off the days on my calendar! Rough, long winter it's been.

Looks like I 'll have more places still.. The ice never melted and we got 14 inches of snow on it's way.... Uuhhggggggg. My poor trees!
