It has been harder to find halves with the price above $40, hopefully a good sell off will cool people off.

what he said - I've seen competition at twelve bucks an ounce

I think you either know about CRH and wil search if silver is $50 or $10 an ounce. I just don't believe because the silver price goes up, there is a influx of newcomers to the game. You either know about this hobby or you don't. Rising silver prices to not mean 1000 new people all of sudden get wind of this hobby and start rushing the banks and ordering boxes.

So why have the finds decreased in boxes of halves if the price doesn't drive competion?

It is more a factor of how many CRHers there are in your area than silver price. The competition has been pretty heavy in my area for a long time, some of that time was when silver dropped to 10 bucks or so in 2008. It is worse now though, but I think that is just because once someone gets hooked that means one more CRHer for at least a while if not permanently. Sort of like in the movies with vampires or werewolves, once someone becomes one they don't go back (to being a non CRHer).

On top of that, you are also at fault. You have to realize that the coins you are getting come from one (or maybe 2/3) place(s) that serve a certain radius. Let's say you live an hour from Philadelphia and Brinks, Loomis and Garda all have places in Philadelphia where they process coin. The banks will be getting coin from those three places and all the coin you give back to them is going back to those places. You are essentially stripping your one area of all the silver, so your finds will constantly keep going down.

The only reason you keep finding silver is because there are more coins being put into circulation with collections being cashed in and 10 year old coin jars being cashed in. If you're on a serious skunk streak, then you should cool it and stop ordering for 2-3 months. Your finds would probably start going back up once some new silver is thrown into circulation from collections/jars being cashed in. Keep going for those teller tray halves in that 2-3 month period, though! Those always produce good results for me.

Don't Bet On That Statement!! There's still silver out there. That's why they call it Coin Roll HUNTING

Although... Bernake is supposed to be giving an announcement tomorrow regarding whether or not the US will print more money. If we do the value of the dollar will drop causing the precious metals to rise.

I wouldn't bet on that one either... I am no expert by any means, but based on what I do know, I would almost say that when it comes to Silver, you can pretty much throw the "fundamentals" out the window. If am too the point where If I think that a certain "event" is going to move silver one way or another, I figure out what direction its going to go, and then bet the other way.... Silver is it's own beast. IMHO
